Visual Rhetoric

First of all, I am not a crazy liberal who hates every move George Bush makes, but this picture brings up a discussion my 10th grade English teacher and my class had. The point of the discussion was "when the political leader dresses in military clothes, everyone should be scared." His examples extended from Hitler to Saddam Hussein. I'm not saying that we should put Bush in that category, but image has always reminded me of that discussion.

This image does bring to mind many important issues. I was surprised by the caption above the image, but it makes a very good point. It kind of emphasizes, or at least attempts to explain the current state of affairs. In a subtle manner, it touches on Bush's military inexperience as a possible cause for us being overseas and involved in a seemingly endless war for coming up on almost seven years.

Your teacher made an interesting case in citing examples of "military" political leaders such as Hitler and Hussein. I don't know that I would include Bush in that same category. I do not believe Bush to be diabolical or malevolent in his actions. My personal opinion is that he simply doesn't know what he's doing. Everything he tries essentially fails, and I almost feel sorry for him. He is not an evil person; he is just not the best suited for the position he is in. I almost wonder if the people who attacked our country almost seven years ago realized that, and took advantage of that when they maliciously attacked.
